Frequently Asked Questions

Considering a Home Birth? We’ve Got You.

1. Is home birth safe?
Yes. Planned home births attended by a qualified midwife are safe for healthy, low-risk pregnancies. We follow evidence-based practices and are trained to monitor both you and your baby’s well-being closely. We also carry emergency equipment and have clear plans for hospital transfers if needed.

2. Who can have a home birth?
Home birth is ideal for individuals with healthy, low-risk pregnancies who desire a more intimate, natural, and empowered birthing experience. We’ll evaluate your medical history, current health, and preferences to ensure that home birth is a good fit.

3. What if something goes wrong?
While emergencies are rare, we are trained to recognize complications early. We carry oxygen, IV supplies, medications to manage postpartum bleeding, and neonatal resuscitation tools. If a hospital transfer is necessary, we coordinate it calmly and efficiently.

4. Can I have a water birth at home?
Absolutely. Water birth is a beautiful, relaxing option for many clients. We provide guidance on birth pools, setup, and maintenance so you can labor and/or birth in warm water safely and comfortably.

5. Will insurance cover home birth?
I do not accept insurance. Some insurance providers reimburse for out-of-hospital midwifery care. We can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible reimbursement and offer payment plans to support accessibility.

6. Do you serve non-traditional family structures?
Yes. We proudly serve single parents, blended families, and all low risk pregnancies. Our care is inclusive, respectful, and centered on your individual identity and needs.

7. What does prenatal care look like?
Prenatal visits happen in a relaxed, unhurried setting where we build a relationship, discuss your birth plan, provide physical exams, labs, and holistic support (nutrition, herbs, emotional care). Visits typically last 45–60 minutes.

8. What happens after the birth?
We stay with you for a few hours to ensure you and baby are stable. Then we return for postpartum visits at your home (typically at 24-48 hours, 1 week, and 6 weeks). We offer breastfeeding/chestfeeding support, newborn screening, and emotional wellness checks.

9. Can my partner/kids/family be involved?
Yes. We welcome your loved ones into the birthing space in whatever way feels right for you. We also support partners in preparing for their role during labor and postpartum.
