FAQs

Is a doula the same as a midwife?

Midwives are medical professionals that are trained to provide various clinical services including delivering a baby. Doulas on the other hand are trained support persons who are available for continuous one on one support. Doulas are taught to provide all of their clients with emotional, informational, and physical support. When you hire a team member from Das the Balm, you are hiring a doula.

Why should I hire a doula if I have a partner?

Doulas have experience with birthwork that your partner is unlikely to have. Doulas do not substitute your partner. You and your partner can benefit from having an experienced doula as a part of your support team before, during, and after your baby arrives. Postpartum doulas are especially helpful for new parents who require extra assistance transitioning into parenthood.

This isn’t my first child. Do I need a doula?

Doulas are a great investment because you can always benefit from educational, emotional, and physical support. Every pregnancy is different and it is not guarenteed to get easier each time. Contact Das to see what may be the best option for you and your family.
